K.Kelimbetov called the possibility of transition to the diversification of the economy in Kazakhstan

Kairat Kelimbetov sees a chance for Kazakhstan to move from a model based on commodity approaches to diversification of the economy taking into account the fact that the global economy has become technologically intensive, managed by Astana International Finance Center. He said during a meeting of the 13th Eurasian media forum, BNews.kz correspondent reports.

“I agree that falling oil prices is a wake-up call. We have seen that this decline was very short. There is a difference between short-term and the fact that it did not stimulate the real structural reforms in their respective countries. And now I think that OPEC threshold has been replaced by slate mining. And now everyone is going to meet the requirements of a conference in Paris,” said K. Kelimbetov.+

Kelimbetov explained that he sees a chance for Kazakhstan to move from a model based on commodity approaches to diversification of the economy.

"We see that there are so many factors that can lead to an increase in global economic progress. And we see another trend - the global economy has become a very technologically intensive. We saw it in shale oil, biotechnology. Even Tesla became available. We will see soon change not only in the fight for the proposal, but the demand for: this new renewable energy, electric cars, vehicles on natural gas, which can replace some petroleum products. For Kazakhstan it is a real chance to move from a model based on commodity approaches to diversification of the economy," he explained.
