Timur Suleimenov
Minister of National Economy of the RK
Timur Suleimenov was born on 5 April 1978. He is a graduate of Pavlodar State University, with degrees in Economy and Management in Social Sphere and Branches (2000) and Jurisprudence (2006, in absentia). In 2002, he was awarded an MBA in Business and Finance by the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, USA. From 2002-2006, he worked as a specialist, consultant, and senior consultant in the Tax Department of Ernst&Young Kazakhstan. In 2006, he transferred to the Department for Preparing Financial Statements of KazMunaiGas Exploration Production JSC. Later, he became department manager, then Director of the Tax Accounting and Tax Planning Department. From March 2009 to March 2010, he served as the Vice Minister of Economy and Budget Planning of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He was in charge of tax policy and revenue forecasting, as well as policy on state property management and developing business and international relations. From March 2010 to February 2012, he served as Vice Minister of Trade and Economic Development for the Republic of Kazakhstan. As Vice Minister, he was in charge of international relations, including the regulation of international economic integration, government policy regarding regulation, and development of domestic trade and foreign trade activity. From 2009 to 2012, he was the World Bank’s Deputy Country Manager for Kazakhstan and the EBRD’s Deputy Country Manager for Kazakhstan. From February 2012 to December 2016, he served as Member of the Board (Minister) in charge of Economy and Financial Policy, Eurasian Economic Commission. In this role, he was responsible for implementing the EEC functions in such areas as conditions for business and investments, financial markets, monetary policy, banking, securities market, insurance, enrollment and distribution of import customs duties, protection and enforcement of intellectual activities, labour migration, and tax policy. He was awarded the Yeren Enbegi Ushin (Medal for Distinguished Labour) Medal, the Medal of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council for the contribution to the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union in the First Degree, the Order of V. Vernadsky, and several public and departmental awards from Kazakhstan, Russia and Kyrgyzstan. On 28 December 2016, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, he was appointed Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
