Next Generation Cities (New Development Forum)

Organizers: The Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

“Economic Research Institute” JSC

Aim: The building of effective platform for discussion of critical issues of urban development and realization of their economic and social potential.

Goals:

- The participants of the round table work out the recommendations on the implementation of the principles of sustainable urban development to be included in strategic documents of the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan and the cities of Kazakhstan.

- At the panel session "New Generation Cities» AEF will present the results of domestic and foreign researchers on the problems and opportunities of urban development.

- On the Urban Forum "New Generation Cities" will took place the transfer of best practices and practical cases on the development from OECD, PwC, McKinsey & Company and other partners of the forum.

Key questions for discussion:

- The transformation of the economy of modern cities ("knowledge economy," post-industrial development)

- The formation of "smart cities" and comfortable cities for human life (creative class, highly educated urban population, human capital)

- Sustainable urban development (infrastructure, ecology and economics)

- Strategic Management agglomerations (new approaches and theories in management and urban development, branding of territories)

- Cities of the future and challenges (migration from rural area to urban areas, affordable housing and infrastructure development)

Expected results:

The adoption of the recommendations of the round table participants and its implementation into national development plans of (cities) urbanization and Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The broadening of the international cooperation on urban issues. The formation of knowledge base on the processes of urban development in Kazakhstan.
