Today, more than half of the world's population lives in cities, and by 2050 this figure will increase by two-thirds. At the same time, cities account for more than 80% of global economic activity. Given this trend, a number of cities around the world have implemented the concept of Smart Cities and are using digital technologies to improve their citizens` standard of living which has been an asset for governments seeking to promote economic growth, improve safety, attract business and provide better services to their citizens. A key factor in the development of smart cities is digital payments, which can bring significant benefits to consumers, businesses, governments and economies.Speakers of the panel session discuss successful decisions, as well as share successful practices of introducing innovative initiatives, conducting research and forecasting economic development of Astana in the transition to the use of digital payments for the city`s entire population.
