ACHIEVING THE GOALS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES WITHOUT ACCESS TO THE SEA
Share

Lack of territorial access to the sea, isolation and remoteness from world markets and high transport and transit costs impose severe restrictions on the overall socio-economic development and trade competitiveness of the 32 landlocked developing countries (LLDCs).
There are a number of challenges for reducing the high costs and increasing the overall competitiveness of LLDCs in the international arena. What recommendations and opportunities might there be for improving the development and maintenance of transport infrastructure in LLDCs, expanding international transport support and strengthening cooperation in transport connections and trade for LLDCs in order to accelerate their achievement of Sustainable Development Goals? What assistance should be given to landlocked countries in order to mobilize a coordinated and collective effort to promote their special needs at international forums?
