IMF MD Christine Lagarde to Take Part in AEF-2019

Christine Lagarde will take part in the Plenary Session dedicated to the New Economy and Kazakhstan’s Growing Investment Potential, which will be held under the leadership of Kazakhstan Prime Minister A. Mamin.

Other distinguished economists, politicians and businessmen also confirmed their participation in AEF: Paul Romer, 2018 Nobel Prize Winner in Economics, Chief Economist of the World Bank (2016-2018); Stanley Fischer, Deputy Chairman of the US Federal Reserve (2014-2017); Armida Alisjahbana, Deputy U.N. Secretary General, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP);Hans-Paul Bürkner, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Boston Consulting Group; Khan Zheng, First Vice-Prime Minister of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Shanghai Mayor (2003-2012)and others.

This year, forum participants will discuss human capital assets as one of the key factors determining the level of income across the world, the growing role of urban competitiveness amid globalization and Industry 4.0 radically changing the production, consumption and business models of the global economy.

 

Christine Lagarde

Education: Paris West University - Nanterre la Défense, Aix-en-Provence Institute of Political Studies.

Started her career as a lawyer at Baker McKenzie. Christine Lagarde was a partner and then headed the company (1981-2004).

Began her political activities as a Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade of France (2005–2007), then Mrs. Lagarde was appointed as a French Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (2007–2008), French Minister of Economy, Industry and Employment (2008–2011).

Since 2011, she has been serving as the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.

For a long time, Ms. Lagarde was in the World’s 10 Most Powerful Women List according to Forbes (2011-2016).
